London Terror

Again, Great Brittain, and London especially is under the reign of terror. When arriving this morning in Waterloo Station, all seemed still OK, but as soon as I popped above ground in Aldgate I noticed the nervousness in the City. Controle of vehicles drivinginto the city, armed police men ...

Having worked for some time now in Britain, I still get amazed of the richness of the language. Last week I received an e-mail from a colleague telling me he wanted "to have a butcher at it!"

What the hell did he want? I was surely not discussing about meat or cooking. It only took me minutes before my helpful colleagues introduced me to the Cockney Rhyming Slang.

It's all about Rhyming your way around. So where did the butcher came from? Butchers - Butchers Hook - Hook - Look. So what he meant was, lets have a look!

And guess what! There is plenty more!

London City @ weekends

I've always expected the "city" to be very quite, but the first sunday ever I worked in London's Business District, I could not believe how quite it can get. No pub, no restaurant, no Starbucks, nothing. Only good old Subways. It provided us with food, coffees and cookies.

On my way out, i discovered a statue near Canon Street that show's who rules the city... The ever busy Corporate Employe. Well, except weekends!! ;-)

Welcome to Aldgate

Today I unexpectedly spent my full first day in our new Aldgate office. I must say, despite the fact there was hardly any furniture and people still fitting out the place, I felt at home.

Also was surprised how close to "the Gurking" we are. Just so you know, this is my window view - well - almost :)

I've spent very little time in London lately which resulted in a poor update of my Blog. But not to worries! I'll be soon back, and we move our offices from Leicester Square (the very heart of the west-ends) to Aldgate. So expect some updates on how life is in The City!!!

Comedy Club

Should have done this ages ago, but finally managed to do this: Visit a Comedy Club. About 6 stand-up comedians were making fun of themselves, the news and especially the audience. If you ever get to come to London do go visit them!

It must be said, the creators of Pixar's Finding Nemo had an excellent eye for the characters of these animals, don't you think?

If you ever have some spare time when visiting London (yeah - I know), you should consider hopping on a train (make sure you use www.thetrainline.com) and visit Oxford!

It's lovely!!!

You also walk into the locations that inspired the Harry Potter movies, like the Christ Church College!

And the Railway Station is just like that one in Leuven: full of student bikes!!
